Plot :

Zoe (Lopez) cannot find the man of her dreams, but wants a child anyway. So it’s time for her Back Up Plan. She undergoes artificial insemination. The same day she meets Stan (O’Loughlin) when they step into a taxi, both claiming to be first. They argue before she gets out because he’s ruining her good mood and he gets out when she says that. Thus both lose the cab. Stan follows Zoe and picks up the penny she turned over for good luck. She joins a mutual aid group of single pregnant women. Later Zoe is at the Farmer’s Market and runs into Stan and learns that he makes cheese. Stan is surprised to see her and they introduce themselves. When his classmate gives the impression that they are going out, Zoe walks away. They meet again in Zoe’s store where there is a speech about dogs, and they have to take their conversation outside. Stan convinces Zoe to go on a no-obligations date. Zoe is still uncertain whether she is pregnant or not and if she should tell Stan. The night she takes the test, Stan takes her for a romantic dinner in a garden. Things didn’t turn out as well as planned when he spills the wine and a fire occurs. At the end of the night Stan asks her to come to his farm during the weekend and Zoe finds out that she is pregnant. She goes to the farm determined to tell him that she is pregnant. Stan is confused and angry that she didn’t tell him before and Zoe leaves the next morning believing that things are over between them. Stan comes around still wanting to be with her. They go to the doctors and find out that Zoe is actually carrying twins. Overwhelmed, Stan goes to a children’s playing area to figure out what it means to be father, but is suspected to be a pervert; this is soon cleared up. He finds a friend there that he can talk to about the pregnancy throughout the movie, while Zoe goes to her group wondering what to do. Stan takes the next step to becoming a father and orders a stroller for the twins. After many misunderstandings and hilarious revelations, Zoe and Stan are walking into the Market when they run into Stan’s classmate. Due to Stan’s remark that the twins are not his, Zoe believes that he is not ready to become a father to them, and breaks off the relationship. Later, before her grandmother’s wedding, the stroller arrives and Zoe figures out that Stan was never going to leave. At the wedding her water breaks and on the way to the hospital they make a pit stop at the Market. Zoe apologizes to Stan and they begin to work things out. He pulls out the penny that she turned over when they first met and Zoe promises to trust him more. In the end Stan opens a store/restaurant next to Zoe’s pet shop and after the Grand Opening speech Stan asks Zoe to marry him. On their way home the newly engaged couple find out that they have another adventure in store for them

Plot :

Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) is involved with Frank Navasky (Greg Kinnear), a leftist postmodernist newspaper writer for the New York Observer who’s always in search of an opportunity to root for the underdog. While Frank is devoted to his typewriter, Kathleen prefers her laptop and logging into her AOL e-mail account. There, using the screen name “Shopgirl,” Kathleen communicates with “NY152.” This is the screen name of Joe Fox (Tom Hanks). Joe belongs to the Fox family which runs Fox Books — a chain of “mega” bookstores similar to Borders or Barnes & Noble. Kathleen, on the other hand, runs the independent bookstore The Shop Around The Corner, that her mother ran before her. The central conflict of the film revolves around Kathleen and Joe building a relationship in virtual reality while they are business rivals in the “real world.” A persistent mode of dramatic irony appears when Kathleen and Joe read each other’s emails.

The movie begins with Kathleen logging on to her AOL account to read an email from “NY152″ (Joe). In her reading of the e-mail, she reveals the boundaries of the online relationship; no specifics, including no names, career or class information, or family connections. The two then pass each other on their respective ways to work, where it is revealed that they frequent the same neighborhoods in upper west Manhattan. Joe arrives at work, overseeing the opening of a new Fox Books in New York with the help of his friend, branch manager Kevin (Dave Chappelle). Meanwhile, Kathleen and her three store assistants, George (Steve Zahn), Birdie (Jean Stapleton), and Christina (Heather Burns) open up shop for the day.

Following a day on the town with his eleven-year-old aunt Annabel and four-year-old brother Matthew (the children of his frequently divorced grandfather and father, respectively), Joe enters Kathleen’s store to let his younger relatives experience storytime. Joe and Kathleen have a friendly conversation that reveals Kathleen’s fears about the Fox Books store opening around the corner, shocking Joe. He introduces himself as “Joe. Just call me Joe,” omitting his last name, and makes an abrupt exit with the children. However, at a publishing party later in the week, Joe and Kathleen meet again, both of them being in the New York book business, where Kathleen discovers Joe’s true identity.

All the while, “NY152″ and “Shopgirl” continue their courtship, to the point where “NY152″ asks “Shopgirl” to meet. Too embarrassed to go alone, Joe brings Kevin along for moral support. He insists that “Shopgirl” may be the love of his life. Meanwhile Kevin, looking in a cafe window at the behest of Joe, discovers the true identity of “Shopgirl.” When Joe discovers that it is actually Kathleen behind the name, he confronts her as Joe (concealing his “NY152″ alter ego – and feelings). The two exchange some bitter words and Joe leaves the cafe hurt.

Following suggestions from Frank and Joe via “NY152″ (who feels bad for deceiving and hurting Kathleen as she was waiting to meet him), Kathleen begins a media war, including both a boycott of Fox Books and an interview on the local news. Despite all efforts, The Shop Around the Corner slowly goes under. In a somber moment Kathleen enters Fox Books to discover the true nature of the store is one of friendliness and relaxation, yet without the same dedication to children’s books as her independent shop. Eventually, her employees move on to other jobs; as Christina goes job hunting, George gets a job at the children’s department at a Fox Books store (Joe later compares George’s knowledge of the contents of the department to a PhD) and Birdie, who is already wealthy from investments, retires.

Allowing time for their electronic relationship to convalesce, Joe visits Kathleen while she is sick, and for the first time makes a favorable impression. Joe discovers that Kathleen has broken up with Frank, who has moved in with a talk show host who interviewed him (Jane Adams). This was predated one week by Joe and his uptight girlfriend, Patricia (Parker Posey), who broke up in their apartment building while stuck in the elevator. Kathleen and Joe develop a tentative friendship that blossoms over the course of a few weeks and they begin to spend more time with one another.

During this time, Joe as “NY152″ provides careful advice to Kathleen as “Shopgirl,” gently encouraging her to explore her real-life relationship with Joe as himself. Finally, “NY152″ and “Shopgirl” agree to meet for the first time since “NY152″ apparently stood her up. Joe and his dog Brinkley (the topic of numerous e-mails) meet Kathleen at Riverside Park. Kathleen admits that she had wanted “NY152″ to be Joe, and the two kiss.

Plot :

Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a struggling single mother trying to get by with her young son Ty (Tyler Posey) by working as a maid for a hotel. When not in school, Ty spends time among Marisa’s fellow hotel workers, most of whom treat the pair as family. Marisa hopes to someday be promoted to management.

While Marisa and fellow maid Stephanie are cleaning the room of socialite Caroline Lane (Natasha Richardson), Stephanie convinces Marisa to try on a coat that Caroline had previously asked be returned to the store, arguing that it “technically” doesn’t belong to anyone at the moment. Elsewhere in the hotel, Ty befriends hotel guest and senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes); Ty wants to go with Chris to walk his dog and the pair go to Caroline Lane’s room to ask Marisa for permission. Chris meets Marisa, who is wearing the fancy coat, and assumes that she is Caroline Lane. The trio spend some time together in the park. Though Marisa and Chris are attracted to each other, Marisa is terrified that management will find out about the ruse and makes it a point to avoid Chris afterward.

Chris asks the hotel’s head butler Lionel Bloch (Bob Hoskins) to invite “Caroline Lane” to lunch, but he is confused when the real Caroline shows up instead of Marisa (ironically, Marisa was present when she received the invitation, and even offered Caroline some advice on what to wear to the date). Chris asks his assistant Jerry Siegal (Stanley Tucci) to find “the other Caroline Lane”, promising that he will attend an important dinner if she will go with him. Jerry asks Lionel to find her. Lionel, who has figured out that Marisa is the woman Chris has been looking for, tells her to go to the dinner and end the affair swiftly if she wants to keep her possible future in hotel management intact. He and the hotel’s staff assist her in preparing for the fancy dress affair, styling her hair and loaning her a fancy dress and a spectacular necklace.

Marisa attends the dinner and attempts to do as Lionel instructed her, but Chris stops her from leaving and the pair spend the night together in his hotel room. Marisa sneaks out the next day but is seen by Caroline, who informs hotel management. The truth is revealed, and Marisa is fired from the hotel. Chris tries to get the whole story out of Marisa, but she refuses to speak to him, claiming that he wouldn’t have noticed her if she had been in her maid uniform.

Some time later, Marisa has obtained a job at another hotel. Ty attends one of Chris’ press conferences and asks him whether people should be forgiven if they make mistakes. Chris responds in the affirmative, and Ty leads him to a room in the same hotel, where Marisa happens to be now employed. Chris and Marisa are reunited. The film ends with images of publications showing that Chris has been elected, he and Marisa are still together after one year, Marisa has started her own hospitality business, and Marisa’s maid friends have been promoted to management.

Plot :

John Clark (Richard Gere) is a lawyer with a charming wife and a loving family, who nevertheless feels that something is missing as he makes his way every day through the city. Each evening on his commute home through Chicago, John sees a beautiful woman staring with a lost expression through the window of a dance studio. Haunted by her gaze, John impulsively jumps off the train one night, and signs up for ballroom dancing lessons, hoping to meet her. At first, it seems like a mistake. His teacher turns out to be not Paulina (Jennifer Lopez), but the older Miss Mitzi (Anita Gillette), and John proves just as clumsy as his equally clueless classmates on the dance-floor. Even worse, when he does meet Paulina, she icily tells John she hopes he has come to the studio to seriously study dance and not to look for a date. But, as his lessons continue, John falls in love with dancing. Keeping his new obsession from his family and co-workers, John feverishly trains for Chicago’s biggest dance competition. His friendship with Paulina blossoms, as his enthusiasm rekindles her own lost passion for dance. But the more time John spends away from home, the more his wife Beverly (Susan Sarandon) becomes suspicious. With his secret about to be revealed, John has to do some fancy footwork to keep his dream going and realize what it is he really yearns for.

Plot :

The two main characters are Amanda, a highly successful editor of movie trailers in Los Angeles, and Iris, a lovesick society column editor for The Daily Telegraph in England. The story is set in motion when each of them suffers a heartache: Amanda discovers that her boyfriend has cheated on her, while the object of Iris’ unrequited love announces his engagement at the office Christmas party. Seeking an escape, Iris proposes the home swap on the internet, posting an ad about her quaint cottage in the English countryside. Her offer is eagerly accepted by Amanda, who lives in a luxurious home in L.A. but is stressed over her break-up. (There are also hints that Amanda is a workaholic; there is a running gag that she imagines her life as being narrated by movie trailer narrator Hal Douglas.)

At first, the swap seems uneven; Iris revels in the luxury of Amanda’s L.A. home, while Amanda suffers a series of disappointments in Surrey. Things turn around for Amanda when she meets Iris’ brother Graham. Both Amanda and Graham intend to have an one-night stand, but a romance develops.

Meanwhile, Iris befriends movie composer Miles and elderly Arthur Abbott; Arthur, it turns out, worked as a screenwriter during the Golden Age of Hollywood. The friendship between Iris and Miles turns romantic after Miles learns of his girlfriend’s infidelity.
