Cathedral Church of the Incarnation Columbarium + Peace Chapel
Echoing the catacombs of early Christianity, a vacated storage area in the undercroft of the Cathedral Church of the Incarnation was renovated for a new columbarium. Color, light and texture are used to reflect the symbols of the resurrection in this sacred space for receiving the ashes of the dead. New electrical and HVAC systems were discreetly introduced into the stone and concrete structure.
Renovation of two bays of the undercroft of the Cathedral Church of the Incarnation created a space appropriate for small services. The project included a new vestibule, chapel, choir niche, prayer niche, sacristy and storage area. Custom work included new chairs, a slate altar with the cross of compassion, stone candle sconces, stained glass and a hovering canopy painted with the sky of early dawn.
